We are proud to announce that we are a myHappymind Silver Accredited School!

This means that as a school, we consider the mental health and wellbeing of our children as one of our top priorities. We have created a whole school culture that helps build our children's resilience, confidence and self-esteem as well as teaching them how to self-regulate in those stressful times. This accreditation badge has been awarded thanks to all the effort our staff, children, governors and parents have put in to bring the lessons of myHappymind to life all around our school!

World Book Day takes place on Thursday 5th March and we hope you’ll join us to celebrate. We are celebrating World Book Day this year in school because we support the charity's mission to change lives through a love of books and reading. There are a range of activities planned throughout the day to celebrate, including some live online workshops, creating costumes and writing an alternative ending to a story.

Dressing up or bringing books into the school is a big part of the World Book Day celebrations and is something that children and families particularly enjoy. We are inviting children to dress up this World Book Day as it’s an exciting way for children to get book recommendations from each other. The book choice is key – even if it’s just a prop or a clue, make sure your child is recommending something to read with their costume. We would like the children to come dressed as a character or prop from their favourite book, or their favourite author. We will be hosting a competition for the most creative and unique costume per class, with an exciting prize!

We would also like children to bring in a cushion or blanket if they have one, so that we can create a relaxing ‘book nook’ in each classroom for the children to have some quiet reading time.

This week, your child(ren) will receive their free book token which they can exchange for any of the 2026 World Book Day £1 books at any of the following stores:

Asda

Tesco

Waterstones

The Works

Sainsburys

We’re very much looking forward to celebrating World Book Day, which could not happen without the support of parents and carers - thank you.

We have some fantastic special lunch days coming up this Spring term. First up is our celebratory World Book Day lunch - featuring Everlasting pizza with alphabet letters, Inventing Room jacket potatoes and Chocolate River sandwiches - on March 5th. There will be other delicious lunches to follow, when we will celebrate Eid and Easter. Please book your child's lunch on ParentPay today! 🍕🥔🥪

Yesterday, we were able to award our first Headteachers Certificates for children who have been repeatedly showing their use of the 'my Happy mind' skills and knowledge they have learnt in class. We are very proud that they are leading the way in adopting these and showing them to their peers. Keep it up! Unfortunately, Mr. Parkhouse wasn't able to present them. We hope he can next time!

Parents also have the opportunity of joining the school and their children on this exciting journey to equip us all with better ways to improve our mental health. If you would like to join, please use the QR code above to download the app and ask a member of the Thorpe team to provide you with an authorisation code. You will then be able to get to know all about 'my Happy mind’!
